Your gut microbiome is usually much more diverse than your vaginal microbiome. In order to present this huge pile of information in a clear manner, we decided to take a step back and focus on a selection of gut bacteria. We are now focusing on fifteen important genera of gut bacteria and have created a passport for each of them.
In addition to this selection, we also found other bacteria in the stool samples of our participants. We grouped these together under “other type of bacteria”. For example, we found Fusicatenibacter, Hominicoprocola, Lactobacillus, and so on. These bacteria sometimes occur in smaller quantities in the gut and their exact role is not always clear. We therefore hope to learn and discover more about these bacteria from the stool samples provided by our participants. Hopefully, we will be able to conduct further research in the coming years and who knows, our selection of important gut genera may even expand. For now, we will remember that every bacterium has unique properties and is important, but it is simply not possible to describe them all individually, which is why we have created this umbrella group of “other type of bacteria”.
The most important advice we can give you always remains the same: do you experience complaints or are you worried about something? Then contact your doctor.
Not sure when you might need to make an appointment with your doctor? This is a list of common complaints that may indicate a (small-scale) problem with your intestinal health (if they occur regularly and/or persist for a long time):
• Cramps
• Constipation
• Diarrhea
• Nausea
• Bloating
• …
